Writing the Writer’s Problem Essay Writing is a passion. Everyone can write but only few people can write well enough for other people to understand. Writing has never been an easy task, job or hobby; it requires attention and broad understanding of the things around you. Language is the first to be considered in writing, how a person will be able to talk to his or her readers and what shall the writer to use. Whatever the reason for writing is, culture and the environment of the writer affect any output he or she produces. In this case, differences in language and in rearing make them different and sometimes, people were unable to understand them. There are certain things that are considered first in writing and when you are in an American school or any English Speaking School, the language used could affect you as a writer especially if your were never a native English speaker. However, writing in English or being fluent in English depends on the nature of the person. Thus, those who came from a different place, foreign student as we call them, and took a chance to enter a world different from theirs, commonly experience language barriers in the sense that they may have used a different language since birth or they have a different tone. Hence, they experience problems in communicating with the people around them in English language, may it be in papers submitted in school or outside school, in conversing with other people, their peers and their classmates. Reflections Using the guides given by the instructor it seems to be so easy at first to analyze one’s self regarding writing concerns. However, this task is a big thing and involves severe reflection and analysis of the real issue. Hence, the following entries are reflections over the guidelines and question given the instructor which would most probably help in knowing one’s self. There are three exercises to be answered and they are in the form of an essay. Exercise 5B: Reflecting on Your Own Writing Concerns Criticizing personal works is not bad at all. It only allows us to have rooms for improvement and a better writing skill. Perhaps it is better to do such reflection over personal works more often than to be too sensitive of the critics. Considering my performance over the past years, it seems that I had been dealing with a better writing skills compared to others. The upbringing I had and the way I use the language allows me to write a better paper and how I was able to communicate with others, may it be through the web or in person. Personally, there are no problems since I can observe no rules in writing but when it comes to professional and academic concerns, it seems that I have to be more careful since there are rules to be followed. However, as a writer, I believe I do not have many problems except of having errors in grammar and thoughts but aside from those, nothing else follows. Moreover, as a writer, my problems in writing allowed me to become emotional sometimes and when it comes to critics over my professional and academic writings, I somehow lose confidence but reflecting upon it at this time, it seems that it is better not to take it personally because critics were made for your own development. On the other hand, it is not hard for me also to relate with those writers who uses English as second language. Like them, I have criticism also and that people, instructors and peers say different things about my writings which I believed were also experienced by writers who use English as second language. However, when it comes to writing anxieties, I believe I do not share the same frustrations since English is not my second language and I had been fluent for a long time already. But regarding struggles in starting an assignment seems to be a common problem among students because that is a common though and it is hard to make a or write a paper without an issue in mind but this one I think I was able to conquer already along with the problem in language. Exercise 5A: Reflecting on Writers’ Concerns Regarding the mock requests, I believe there is nothing personal and so meeting the students face to face would be better. In this case, there will be enough attention and the focus of both the student and me will be at one point, sharing the same point of view and focal point. Hence, it will be easy for the two of us to exchange ideas and opinion which will be very helpful not only to the students but also with me. If we happen to see face to face, perhaps the students will confess about their problems in writing and the language which prohibits them to continuous write down their thoughts and opinions. It is a common problem and though they are frustrated already, they will and eagerness to learn more and to work on with they writing skills allows them to deal with their frustration. In this case, the students were benefiting in such tutorials because they are given the chance to be heard and then to learn also. In some point, there are no reasons why language used in writing will not be tackled over mock requests. It seems that it is one of the main reasons why such things happen and it is focused mainly on improving the students and not into insulting them. Addressing such problems are common already that it will be helpful for the students if they will take constructively and not focusing on the emotional torture it may give them. The advises I gave seems to be helpful to them due to the fact that they really have improvements and that they do understand the importance of knowing English and learning how to fluently write in English since they are presently in an English Country wherein there is a Standard Academic English. Exercise 5c: Reflecting on Tutoring Techniques Considering the revision of the advices I gave to the students, it seems that it still have to revise other things and that the once I shared must be given in full detail and not in a short talk only. First and foremost, I have to be sure that the students understand what I was trying to say and have an idea of what is really happening which means that full attention must be give. Also the student must be oriented with culture and the differences since it is one part of the cultivation of the writer’s thoughts and skills. Furthermore, clearing issues about culture will allow them to have ideas in the world of writing such as plagiarism and to give them ideas about the proper style to be used when writing for academic papers under the Standard American English. Hence, with all of these things cleared to the student, he or she will be able to write better and soon learn more about and learn to adapt with the changes. Nathan Bedford Forrest   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The United States Army, in its doctrine, lists nine basic principles. As stated in Field Manual 100-5 these include objective, offensive, mass, economy of force, maneuver, unity of command, security, surprise, and simplicity. 1 Napoleon had 115 maxims, Sun Tzu had 13 principles, but Nathan Bedford Forrest’s advice was the utmost of simplicity, â€Å"Git thar firstest with the mostest men.†2 As we look at the challenge facing our nation’s military today, our leaders would do well to look at Forrest’s campaigns and strategies as a guide.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  . Forrest won respect for risking his life while trying to save his aging uncle. Subsequently, Forrest won the affection of Mary Montgomery who, in 1845, became his wife.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In 1851 Bedford moved to Memphis. He won several elections as an elderman and prospered as a businessman. When he closed out his business in late1859 war was eminent. He was involved in his own cotton business and was busy putting his family affairs in order. His net worth was 11/2 million dollars and he was netting $30 thousand a year for his cotton. While he was a slave trader during this period, Colonel Adair described his actions as â€Å"Forrest was kind, humane, and extremely considerate of his slaves. He seemed to exercise the same influence over them that in a greater degree he exercised over the soldiers who served him as devotedly as if there was between them a strong personal attachment.5 On 14 June 1861, he enlisted in Memphis as a soldier in Captain White’s Tennessee Mounted Rifles Company.6 This unit would become a subordinate unit of the Seventh Tennessee Calvary Regiment. Forrest was the unit’s commander when the war ended. Friends of Forrest’s approached Governor Harris and General Polk, which subsequently resulted in an authorization allowing Forrest to raise a battalion of mounted rangers. By October of 1861 he had eight companies of men comprising a total of 650. Most arrived with pistols and shotguns, as well as horses, which resulted in Forrest still attempting to obtain rifles for them when the unit was ordered to Dover as reinforcement for what was to be Fort Donelson. Arthur Miller Essay

The Crucible was written in 1952 by the writer Arthur Miller. It is a story of ‘witch-hunts’ which occurred a lot during the 1950’s. Throughout the play, Arthur Miller has talked about characters facing severe tests that have made them question their own self. It shows the extreme surprising occurrences which were often being caused by what they thought was the devil or his cohorts. The inscrutable sickness fears of witchcraft were happening and it was not long before the girls, and many residents began to accuse other villagers of associating themselves with devils and casting spells. Old grudges and jealousies spilled out into the open, making the atmosphere very tense. A lot of the residents were either forced to give in and live or lie and be put to death by being hanged. In some sense, ‘The Crucible’ has the arrangement of a tragedy, With John Proctor as the play’s tragic hero. John Proctor is an honest, upright, blunt-spoken person, however he is a very good man. The fatal flaw of him is the lust for Abigail Williams which led to an affair (this happened before the play begins). This caused jealousy of his wife, Elizabeth, which sets the entire witch exaggeration within the community in motion. Of all the major characters throughout the play, Abigail is the least complicated. She is sort of the villain in the play. She tells lies, manipulates her own friends and the entire town to her favour. Eventually she sends nineteen innocent people to their deaths due to the lies she tells and the way she manipulated people. Among the witch-hunt mania, Abigail’s motives never seem more complex than just jealousy and the desire to have revenge on Elizabeth Proctor. In the play, Abigail seems to be like a biblical character, like a Jezebel figure, always being driven by a sexual desire and a lust for power. In the first chapter, the audience learn about the affair associated with Abigail and Proctor. We learn that they have had an affair, however the audience soon see that the affair is no longer continuing. ‘Abigail: Give me a word, John. A soft word. (Her concentrated desire destroys his smile. ), ‘Proctor: No, no, Abby. That’s done with. ‘. He reacts negatively, he denies her, and he is repulsed. He is trying to put the adultery in the past. ‘Proctor: Abby, I might think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut my hand off before I’ll ever reach for you again. Wipe it out of mind. We never touched, Abby’, he tries to put his adultery in the past. He tells her that he never touched her, even though he did, and he makes it clear that It will never happen again. Throughout the monologue with Proctor and Abigail, the attitude and mood soon changes because Proctor wants to leave the affair in the past, and wipe it out of mind, like it never happened. ‘Wipe it out of mind’. However Abigail wants to carry on with the sexual desire to carry on the affair with Proctor. At the beginning of the monologue he tries to set her firmly out of his path, however later he gets angry and she can’t believe it. Abigail soon gets quite angry as well, and this part of the play expresses the anger between both of them ‘Abigail (With a flash of anger): How do you call me child! ‘ During Act 1, it seems as though Abigail wants John Proctor ‘Abigail (grasping his hand before he can release her): John – I am waitin’ for you every night’, however as the John Proctor and her keep talking there is a change in her mood because he is not giving into her sexual desire for him. Now her mood changes into anger and jealousy ‘Abigail (With a bitter anger): Oh, I marvel how such a strong man may let such a sickly wife be-‘, here she becomes really jealous that he won’t give into her due to the fact that he loves Elizabeth, and Elizabeth is his wife. The stage directions that Arthur Miller uses in the play tell the reader a lot about the character. When Abigail is going on about the affair between her and Proctor the stage directions are beneficial. ‘Abigail: (grasping his hand before he can release her): John – I am waitin’ for you every night’, this instantly helps the reader visualise the character and will aid the an actor that is performing the play, whilst playing the role to act more effectively. Arthur Miller also uses the language as a benefit for the effective of the play, Miller uses language to effectively set the period and the tone for the play. The language brings an approach of something out of the King James Bible, but somehow makes it universal to modern day, and the stage directions being out an approach of making the play more effective to both the actors and the audience. In court, Proctor has an outburst of truth and attack on Abigail. Abigail’s reaction to this, is that he is lying about what he is saying, she tries to manipulate the court room into believing what she is saying. ‘Abigail: Mr Danforth, he is lying! ‘, later on, she then makes it up that she is seeing a bird up on the ceiling, and she gets the rest of the girls to go with her lying, to make it look as though there is witchcraft going on right before there eyes. ‘Abigail, with a weird, chilling cry, screams up to the ceiling’, ‘Abigail (unperturbed, continuing to the ‘bird’): Oh, Mary, this is a black art to change your shape. No, I cannot, I cannot stop my mouth; it’s God’s work I do. ‘ Here is where she really starts to manipulate people, and lie. The language that Proctor uses to describe himself is not like his prideful ways.

Women’s Health Issues Women in today’s society have a lot more power and say in what they can or cannot do. Even though women are becoming much stronger in every way. Women still get abused today. In today’s world it might not be seen as obscene anymore, since more women are being open about it. There are two articles which show how abuse by men can be sometimes overlooked if a woman fights back. In the article â€Å"Women s use of Force† and â€Å"Adolescent Battered Women† by Nancy Worcestor, she shows the some problems that people don t realize battered women go through. Women suffer from physical, emotional, sexual and mental abuse. Many women suffer for years without saying a word.
